Maria Seiler-Huizing

Maria Seiler-Huizing

Art and all things creative are my passions. My inspiration comes from life's daily routines, finding the interesting in the ordinary, seeing the beauty in nature and the figurative and floral. I strive to capture and project the essence of the subject through color, light and texture.

Maria is a native Calgarian whose passion for art began in early childhood with family encouragement. Growing up in the foothills of Alberta with the mountains in the background invoked an appreciation for capturing the beauty of her surroundings. Her many travels provided further inspiration.

After earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts and a Bachelor's of Education degrees, artistic pursuits took a detour while Maria taught in high school and raised a family. Recent years have allowed Maria to paint full time, participate in art groups, exhibitions and workshops. Maria's present goals are to continue exploring and refining acrylic and watercolor techniques while capturing charm of her surroundings. Maria has a renewed passion for plein air painting because it gives a more lasting experience of the landscape. Along with light and color, it is the emotion of the place that she wants the viewer to experience from her art.
