Gloria Chow

Gloria was born in Hong Kong. She started painting at a young age. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from The University of Alberta after becoming a pharmacist a decade earlier. Gloria returned to her Pharmacy career and painted occasionally. After a period of time, she decided to pursue her passion in painting full time. Gloria paints primarily in oil of familiar subjects in her surroundings including landscapes, still life, figures and portraits; whatever pulls those strings in her heart.

Gloria has exhibited in group shows and art festivals. She was featured in a students’ newspaper article of the University of Alberta in her graduating year. Her works were featured in the “Best of Worldwide Landscapes Artists” publication. She has won various awards and competitions including winning the adult category in the Alberta Wilderness Association Mural Competition, the Margaret Shelton Award at the Calgary Sketch Club and the Best in Oil prize in the People’s Portrait Prize Competition in Calgary.

“Painting helps me understand my inner world. It brings me to a place I consciously and subconsciously created where I linger and lose myself in, a place where I see the beauty of God’s creations and peace. I can escape the worries of the “real” world in exchange for my own created reality.”

“I paint familiar subjects to reflect my inner feelings through colour, light and gestures. Every execution is connected through my heart.”
