Bonnie Martyn

Bonnie spent her early years on the Saskatchewan prairies and this is a major focus for much of her art.  Open skies, old buildings and flowers are the subjects of her art which bring her the most satisfaction.  Early influences include her parents’ collection of numerous pieces in watercolour and oil from Fred Mendal of the Saskatoon Mendal Art Gallery.  Bonnie also works with fabric art and quilt design.

While married and raising a family, Bonnie worked in Germany with the Canadian Military, and later in the country in and near Cochrane, Alberta.  She has traveled extensively and also paints from these experiences.

Choosing to study art later in life through self study, attending classes and worships, Bonnie continues to explore the versatility of watercolour.  Her fascination with watercolour is a result of the colour blending, luminosity and pure joy she finds in this medium.   More recently Bonnie has added acrylics to the scope of her art, providing intense colour and a change of pace in her artistic journey.
