Jenny Maton

Born and raised in Calgary with glorious weekends spent at a family mountain cabin. I was surrounded by a diversity of flora and fauna. Such early influences inspired my creativity which was further kindled by 3 gifted artist relatives. Living in the Rockies allowed me to experience the brilliance of nature’s colors and variety of flowers that thrive there in contrast to the majestic mountains.

Initially, I sketched and painted botanicals and through experimentation, I found watercolors allowed me to express nature’s bounty in my realism pieces. I expanded my interests and dabbled into wildlife and landscapes. Watercolors continue to fascinate me the color, fluidity, luminescent and diversity of techniques.
Today, I’m inspired by my garden, foliage/wildlife along hiking trails and recent travels/meanderings. Also, a re-found fascination of Master artists such as Van Gogh. Painting is my escape, joy and play.

I graduated from the University of Alberta. Following I had a successful career in sewing and fashion design. Along my art journey, I completed courses at Alberta University of the Arts, as well as workshops with acclaimed artists; Paula Henchell, Sharon Williams, Karen Richter, Karl Geist and Doug Levitt.

As a member of CCPS I have participated in numerous shows and exhibited with the Calgary Public Library and in a professional office. I am a founding member of 4C, an on-line Art community.
